Updating your bathroom doesn’t have to be dramatic. It doesn’t even have to be expensive. All you need is a little creativity, the right tools, and time (which you have plenty of during this lockdown season).

While plumbing contractor services are not yet available in Murray, Utah or Providence, Rhode Island, you can take on these projects by yourself. They’re easy to do and, if you’re the type of person who likes to get his hands dirty, this will be lots of fun.

12 DIY Bathroom Improvement Ideas

1. Have a walk-in shower instead of a tub.

If you have a tub at home but rarely use it, why don’t you remove it and convert the area into a full shower instead? The room will look more spacious and luxurious.

2. Re-tile the shower area.

Although this might seem like a very tedious job, the results are overwhelmingly satisfactory. Retiling your shower area gives it a fresh new look without making any changes to its structure.

3. Update your lighting fixtures.

Get rid of the typical and boring lighting fixtures in your bathroom and give it a chich new look with some hanging or wall fixtures. New lighting can give an old room a new lease on life.

4. Tile your walls.

Tiles aren’t just for the shower area in your bathroom. They look great on bathroom walls, too, especially behind the vanity. That and they’re easy to clean, too.

5. Add some towel hangers.

A few additional towel hangers (whether bars or rings) can give a bathroom an instant new look. These are readily available in shops, are inexpensive, and easy to install. If you want to go the extra mile, get a towel warmer. Just install and plug to the nearest outlet and you’re good to go.

6. Have some wallpaper fun.

If you’re not into tiles for your walls, then the next best thing to do is to cover them up with wallpapers. Wallpapers are coming back in style now. The only problem you’ll have with this is it will be hard to choose just one pattern among the plethora of great selections in the market now.

7. Paint the vanity.

Are you getting sick and tired of your old vanity? Before tearing it down, consider updating it by painting it in an entirely different color. A change of color can breathe new life into your dull vanity.

8. Replace the hardware.

One of the quickest ways of updating your bathroom’s look is by replacing all the hardware. Faucets, showerheads, towel and coat hangers, drawer handles, and hinges can all be easily replaced.

9. Upcycle some old wooden furniture.

Do you have some old wooden console tables or chest of drawers you’re thinking of getting rid of? Don’t. You can upcycle them into bathroom furniture. An antique chest of drawers will make for a great bathroom sink with a few modifications.

10. Wainscot it.

Think wainscot is only good for the living or dining area? Think again. A few wooden panels in your bathroom adds a touch of elegance to it, especially if you have an older home.

Flushing the toilet

11. Convert your toilet into a dual flush.

You don’t need to buy a new toilet to accomplish this one. Dual-flush conversion packs only cost about $25 a set. If you already have plans of replacing your toilet, dual-flush units are somewhere in the mid-to-high price range. It may be a bit expensive at first but it will more than make up for your water bill savings.

12. DIY Storage.

Why buy storage when you can make them yourself? You just need a few bright ideas or perhaps some inspiration online but coming up with unique bathroom storage is a fun thing to do.

Whether you’re working on a quick-and-easy update or a weekend-long project, the end product will surely add plenty of value to your home.
